David W. Grantz, age 83, of Goose Lake, IA passed away Friday March 3, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 8th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, IA. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton is assisting the family. Burial will be held at Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. Pallbearers will be Wayne, Scott, Luke, Clayton and Sawyer Grantz, Bob Fatchett, and Bill Mommsen. David was born June 24, 1939 in Clinton, IA, the son of Walter and Lily (Lamp) Grantz. He attended the Center #4 “Plugtown” Grade School and graduated from Elvira High School in 1957. He married Gwen Rickertsen on August 17, 1973 at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt, IA. David was a crop and livestock farmer his whole life on the family’s Heritage farm. He was a dedicated member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Pork Producers Association, and a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. David enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and family, playing cards, and the outdoors. In his later years he enjoyed gardening and baking. He especially enjoyed helping his sons farm. David’s life was built on his devout faith, commitment to his family, and a strong work ethic. Through his actions and example he installed the qualities of honor, integrity, and hard work in his three sons.
David is survived by his wife, Gwen Grantz of Goose Lake; three sons, Wayne (Tori) Grantz of DeWitt, Scott (Jeni) Grantz of Bryant, and Luke (Amy) Grantz of Goose Lake; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Katie, Clayton, Laikyn, Gentry, Sawyer, and Sutton; sister and brother-in-law, Jaclyn and Joe Bisinger. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Janice Rickertsen.
