David Henry Peters, age 88, passed away on August 31st, 2021 at his home. According to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Clinton Unity Center located at 562 5th Ave. South. Collene Voltman, Spiritual Leader at Unity will officiate. A Gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday, September 3rd at the Pape Funeral Home.
David was born on April 21st, 1933 in Clinton, the son of Vernon C. and Grace (Kirschner) Peters. He graduated from Lyons High School and attended Grinnell College and the University of Iowa. He married Susan Byllesby in Clinton on August 20, 1955. David served in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix N.J. from 1953-1955 and was able to go on the 2019 Honor Flight to Washington D.C. After college he ran Peters Insurance Agency with his father from 1957-1965 and then continued until 2020. He also was a school bus driver for many years. David was a member of Toastmasters, was a fine home improvement carpenter, and enjoyed gardening and playing Bridge. David and his wife Sue have traveled all over the world and shared their experiences and journeys with their loving family. He was an important influence on the Unity Center startup. David was a friend to Bill for 33 years.
David is survived by his wife Sue; two daughters Lisa Grace and Kathy Peters, both of Davenport; one son Eric (Shari) Peters of Clinton; six grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, Lindsey, Abby, Danny, and Stephanie; 19 great grandchildren, and a niece Maija. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister in law Joan Boitman. Memorials may be made to Clinton Unity Center or the Clinton Benevolent Society.
