Charles J. Blount (“Charlie”, “Butch”), 73, died July 6th, 2022 in the presence of family after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Charlie was known to be very passionate, strong-willed, and full of grit. Like all other battles, he faced this one head on in a way that made his family extremely proud.
Born November 20th, 1948, in Clinton, IA to the late Charles E. and Veronica M. (Phillips) Blount. Charlie was a 1968 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Clinton, IA. Charlie’s career was diverse, which included a combined 25 years of railroad service as a carman for Chicago North- Western and a track welder for Union Pacific. Additionally, as a self- taught structural and mechanical engineer, Charlie was a successful business owner and operator of his own tree service for over 40 years as well as an investor and developer of real estate, which allowed him to “beautify the land” as he often said.
Charlie had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed playing cards, billiards, and taking scenic drives. He had a great appreciation for nature and animals, especially his dogs. He often studied engineering, law and history and relished in a good debate. His family is convinced that his strong convictions may have led him to be “world famous” as a political commentator on social media.
Those who knew Charlie well, would describe him as having a huge personality and fun spirited, but he was also very nurturing and sentimental. His life stories and contagious laugh will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Charlie is survived by four of his children: Monica M. Blount- Mabee (Greg) of Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer J. Blount of Clinton, IA, Matthew C. Blount (Anne) of Camanche, IA, Alexander T. Blount (Hailey) of Camanche, IA; his siblings Dolores (Richard) Thomann, Thelma (John) Rife, and Adaline Blount. Survivors also include 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Charlie was pre- deceased by his son, Austin R. Blount, his parents, and his siblings Mary (James) Murtha, Charlene (Charles) Chap, Michael (Laurel) Blount, Richard Blount, and Donald Blount.
“Life is great if you don’t weaken” – Charles J. Blount
