Carl J. Johnson, Sr. age 103 of Peoria, Il, formerly of Camanche, IA passed away Monday Nov. 17, 2025 at Bickford of Peoria, IL. Memorial services will be held Saturday Nov. 22nd at 1:00 PM at Bickford of Peoria in Peoria, IL. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton is assisting the family. Carl was born on April 21, 1922 in Battle Creek, IA the son of Carl and Martha (Scheel) Johnson. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1939, Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University in 1950, and received his Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1942 – 1946. Carl was a German language interpreter for captured German soldiers in several Prisoner-of-War camps while in the Army. He married Ruth Davenport on March 2, 1952 in Oskaloosa, IA.

Carl was an Instructor at Clinton Community College in Accounting and Computer Programming for 24 years, when he retired. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton, Clinton Kiwanis Club, the Iowa State Educational Association, and the National Educational Association.

Carl is survived by his wife, Ruth Johnson of Peoria, IL; two sons, Carl Johnson of Pekin, IL and Douglas (Roxy) Johnson of Dubuque, IA; two daughters, Phyllis Johnson of Iowa City, IA and Patricia (Rob) Otero of Olympia, WA; five grandchildren, Hailie, Seth, Kate, Wyatt, and Derek; former daughter-in-law, Patti Winter of Atascocita, TX; five nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Edith, and a brother, Herbert.
