Bruce was born on December 19, 1950, to Robert and Dorothy (Nohr) Sorensen in Clinton, IA. He grew up in Plugtown, attending school and graduating from Northeast Gooselake in 1969. While in school, Bruce participated in wrestling and was quite the “rebel.” After graduation Bruce worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a short time and then returned to what he loved and enjoyed, farming. Bruce spent over 50 years on the family’s century farm and undoubtedly enjoyed every moment there.
Bruce was united in marriage to Nan M. Holle on August 28, 1980. This union blessed them with their two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica. Bruce and Nan along with their daughters farmed together and experienced the joys of milking cows, farrowing and raising feeder pigs, raising cattle, growing crops along with other farming activities. During the past several years, he found great pride and joy in spending time with his grandchildren on the farm as well as taking yearly trips to see his loving sisters in Colorado. In March of 2010, Bruce lost Nan to pancreatic cancer which was devastating but he later found companionship with Elizabeth Miller for the past several years.
Bruce leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Allen of Solon, IA and Jessica (Andrew) Baker of Clinton, IA. three grandchildren, Grace and Maxon Allen and Emarie Baker, special companion Elizabeth Miller, his brothers Wayne (Karen) Sorensen of Gooselake, IA, James (Mary Kay) Sorensen of Maquoketa, IA, his sisters Cathy (Garold) Caven of Clinton, IA, Carol (Andy) Viksne of Castle Rock, CO, Dr. Bonnie May of Colorado Springs, CO, Wanda (Dale) Sorensen of Charlotte, IA, mother-in-law Betty Herman of Bettendorf, IA, brother-in-law, Jeffrey (Joy) Holle of Davenport, IA, sister-in-law, Theresa (Tyrone) Boley of Bettendorf, IA and Beth Bates of Preston, IA along with several nieces and nephews.
We have peace knowing Bruce was greeted into his eternal home by his mother, Dorothy, late wife, Nan Sorensen, and brother-in-law Todd Boley. He was also proceeded in death by his father, Robert Sorensen. In memory of Bruce, please feel free to wear John Deere attire or Bruce’s squad shirt to his service.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Bruce. Bruce touched many lives and will be thought of often and never forgotten. In the difficult days and nights ahead may the many wonderful memories of his life give you comfort. Something that we have personally experienced to be of great comfort are the thoughts expressed in the Bible at John 5:28 “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus) voice and come out “. May God Jehovah give strength and his love to each of you always.
