Brian L. Galusha, age 59 of rural Clinton, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Mercy One Hospital. In following Brian’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22nd at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21st and from 10:00 AM until the service time Wednesday, June 22nd at Faith Lutheran. Burial will follow at Teeds Grove Cemetery.
Brian was born on December 17, 1962 in Savanna, IL, the son of Donald and Donna (Greve) Galusha. He graduated from East Central High School in Miles, IA. After high school, Brian earned degrees from Clinton Community College and the University of Maryland before entering the Army. He served as a military police officer with the US Army, stationed during his career at the Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium. Brian met Mollie McFarland, who was stationed in Belgium as well, and they were married on February 27, 1987 in Mons.
Brian had worked at Equistar before taking over the family farm full-time. When the livestock markets began to fluctuate, he decided to follow his dream to educate. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Mt. St. Clare College, and a Master’s Degree in Administration Degree from Western Illinois University. He began his teaching career at Clinton High School in 2003 where he taught a variety of science classes. During his tenure at Clinton High, he served as Assistant Principal from 2010 until 2016. In addition to educating at Clinton High School, Brian used his talents to serve as a Cross Country, Track, and Assistant Football coach at East Central High School. Brian was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Andover Lions Club. He was a member and Past President of the American Bear Association and the Iowa State Alternative Education Board. He enjoyed farming, wood working, building, hiking, nature walks, sports, and being in the mountains. Brian loved being with his family and especially his his granddaughters. He was a die-hard fan of the Atlanta Braves, Miami Dolphins, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Brian is survived by his wife, Mollie; 2 sons, Matt (Karley) Galusha of Hazel Green, WI and Colton Galusha, stationed with the US Army in Fort Bliss, TX; 2 grandchildren, Claira and Ellie Galusha; his mother, Donna Galusha of Clinton, IA; a brother, Chuck (Ray Gomez) Galusha of Morrison, IL; a niece, Annette (Phillip) Laux; a great-nephew, Lander; and special friends Dean and Cindy Bartels. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; an infant son, James Christopher; and 2 brothers, Michael and James Galusha. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
