The family invites everyone to join us for dessert after the service. The family requests that masks be worn. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Phyllis was born on July 20, 1932, in Charleston, IL to Harris and Ethel Phipps. She graduated from Eastern High School, Charleston, Illinois, and proceeded to attend nursing school at Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign, Illinois. She received her Registered Nursing degree in 1953. Her nursing career included working at both Jane Lamb and Mercy hospitals in Clinton. She retired from working in 1998, but considered herself a nurse throughout her retirement. After retiring, she volunteered at Mercy hospital, and spent her summers with her RV in Minnesota, enjoying the lake life with her two spoiled cats.
Phyllis married Thomas Frederick Schriner in Charleston, IL, on August 12, 1953. They had four children – Carol, Linda, Steve, and Mark. While the children were in elementary school, the family lived in various locations throughout the world, including Korea, Pakistan, and Malaysia. While living overseas they were able to travel extensively, and had a variety of adventures. Being evacuated from a war zone is not for the faint of heart! After being overseas, she settled in Clinton, where she developed a love of boating on the Mississippi, spending much of her free time there.
Phyllis is survived by her four children – Carol Hedberg (Tom) of Moorhead, MN, Linda Skiff (Dennis) of Camanche, IA, Steve Schriner (Kara) of Festus, MO, and Mark Schriner (Judy) of Nekoosa, WI, her grandchildren Daniel Hedberg (Amy), Katie Hutton (Adam), Mollie Bickert (Jameson), Sam Hedberg (Emalee), Jeffrey Skiff, Michael Skiff, Caitlyn Skiff, Nick Schriner, Jake Schriner (Collette), Ryan Schriner, Paige Schriner, Jessica Wallen (Scott), and Mike Bird (Whitney), and ten great grandchildren.
Phyllis was a long-time member of PEO, active in the congregation of First Baptist Church, Clinton, and loved her knitting group. She moved into the Village Cooperative in 2013, where she made a wonderful group of new friends. Friday coffee and doughnuts was all but a required activity.
