Albert J. “Gene” Hinz, age 88 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday, before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Gene was born in Clinton on February 14, 1933, the son of Hans and Mathilda (Lass) Hinz. He attended Clinton Schools. He served his country during the Korean War, with the US Army, 7th Field Artillery Battalion stationed in Germany. Gene married Bernadette Bouchereau on April 21, 1973 in Clinton. He was employed at Clinton Corn Processing/ADM for over 39 years. Gene was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, and the 25 year club at Clinton Corn. He was a lifelong Cubs fan, enjoyed bowling, traveling, walking, reading, Western movies, the Molly B Polka show and spending time at Hardee’s with his coffee club buddies. He lived his life following this quote: “No mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great. Duty first.”
Gene is survived by his wife Bernadette; 2 children, Dominique (David) Fredericksen of Tucson, AZ and Charles Kramer (Mindy) of Henderson, CO; 5 grandchildren, Amber, Kenny, Katie, Alicia and Brittnee; 13 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Donald (Judith) Hinz of Clinton, Richard (Nancy) Hinz of Muscatine, IA, Gary Hinz of Mora, MN; a sister, Rita, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert; 3 sisters, Irene, Delores and Darlene; and 5 half siblings, Elmer, Lawrence, Betty, Lucy and Elsie.
