Michael J. “Mike” Blount, age 70 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 at his home. In following Mike’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held Saturday, December 19th at the Pape Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Mike was born in Clinton on October 23, 1950, the son of Charles and Veronica (Phillips) Blount. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1969. Mike married Laurel Tracy on November 28, 1970 at St. Irenaeus Church in Clinton. Mike was a conductor with the Chicago Northwestern /Union Pacific Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. He enjoyed attending his grandkid’s school and sporting events, being outside and maintaining his yard, an occasional trip to the casino and following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Mike is survived by his wife Laurel; 4 children, Agina Phipps (Jay Thomas) of Aurora, IL, Sybil Zmolek (Craig Curley) of Stewartville, MN, Nathan (Lisa) Blount of Clinton and Seth (Lynette) Blount of Maquoketa; 7 grandchildren, Kelsey Potratz, Kaylee Zmolek, Anabel, Marcus, Kael, Avrey and Brielle Blount; 3 sisters, Delores (Dick) Thomann of East Moline, Thelma (John) Rife of Mt. Vernon, IA and Adaline Blount of Los Lunas, NM; a brother, Charles Blount of Camanche and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Mary Murtha and Charlene Chap; 2 brothers, Richard and Donald Joseph and a nephew Austin Blount. Memorials in Mike’s name may be made to Prince of Peace Schools.

Sorry to hear of your recent loss. I was looking for my wife’s uncle and seen the name Blount and thought it might be your brother. We were just freshman when Mike was a senior at St. Mary’s High School, i will keep you and your family in my prays,

Thinking of your family! What a great husband, dad and grandpa he was to all of you. I always liked and could count on his quiet smile watching from the Mater Dei gym years ago. My sincere condolences to all of you.
