Velma A. Ketelsen age 90, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Westwing Place in DeWitt. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 9th at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark McMahon, Blaine Roeder and Brandon, Casey, Cody and Kipp Ketelsen. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Velma was born in Clinton on November 28, 1927, the daughter of Marius and Bessie (Boothby) Fallesen. She was the valedictorian when she graduated from Charlotte High School in 1944. Velma married Arlo Ketelsen on January 19, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Arlo passed away on December 3, 1998. Velma was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for many years. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had volunteered at East Central Elementary School. Velma and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States. She enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, reading and playing 500.
Velma is survived by six children; Arla (Francis) McMahon of Charlotte, Aletha (Kenneth) Roeder of Fulton, Becky (Larry) Musel of Clinton, Keith (Lyn) Ketelsen of Milan, IL, Robb (Lori) Ketelsen of Annawan, IL and Annie Fischer of Bellevue and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Ketelsen of DeWitt. Velma was loving known as “Grandma and Great Grandma Pancakes” to 17 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Boyer of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Don, a brother Myron and two sisters, Janet and Marjorie. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
