Sandra K. Birt age 71 of Clinton, passed away Thursday Jan. 16, 2020 at Bickford Cottage-Clinton after a 13 year battle with alzheimers. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday Jan. 20th at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Monday 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com. Sandra was born on Aug. 27, 1948 in Clinton, the daughter of James Bell and Betty (Plambeck) Bell Svacina. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Bill “John” Svacina. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1967. She married Ron Birt on Feb. 10, 1968 in Clinton. Sandra was a secretary for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she served on the Learning Committee, Clinton Kiwanis, and served on the board for the Clinton Showboat and the Mardi-Gras Parade. Ron and family loved her cooking and baking. Sandra tutored youth at the Clinton Community School District. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, going to the theater, and going to her children and grandchildren school activities.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Ron of Clinton; 4 children, Jen (Todd) Schau of Goose Lake, Melissa (Paul) Birt-Steeg of Clinton, Traci (Corry) Bailey of Clinton, and Travis Birt of Clinton; 8 grandchildren, Marisa, Payten, Pete, Alexis (Abe), Kyla, Keegan, Olivia, and Max; 2 great grandchildren, Jameson and Claire; 2 sisters, Brenda Bach of Camanche and Sharon Block of Beaver, IA; her brother, John Svacina of Bishop, CA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Hannah, her brother, James, 2 infant brothers, and her son-in-law, Phil.
Visitation will be held Monday 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the church.
