Ruth L. Badtke - 95

Ruth Matthiesen Badtke, 95, died July 10, 2018. She would have been 96 in September. The service will be Monday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Andover. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to the service hour on Monday. Burial at Miles Cemetery will follow the service.
Ruth was a life-long resident of Clinton County. She was born on a farm near Bryant to Virtus and Lillian (Christiansen) Matthiesen on September 17, 1922. She graduated from Miles High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) where she earned her rural teaching certificate. She taught at the Sunshine School before marrying Otto Badtke on June 18, 1944, in Charlotte, IA. They farmed in Clinton County until his retirement.
Ruth was active in the community serving on committees and boards for various organizations. She was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church, Andover, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years as well as serving on the church council and various offices in the women’s groups.
She is survived by two children, Pat of Cedar Rapids, and Dan, of Viroqua, WI; five grandchildren, Fantasy (Ray) Zellars, Pittsburg PA; Al (Jess) Johnson, St. Paul, MN; Eowyn (Kevin German) Brewer; Ross (Jenilee) Peterson, Lakeville,, MN; Pearl Badtke, LaFarge WI; seven great-grandchildren, Tru, Olivia, Nola, Henry, Eleanor, Magdalena and Edward, and a much loved sister-in-law Marilyn Matthiesen. Otto, her parents and a brother, Emmett Matthiesen, preceded her in death.
