Oleeta Sue McQueen - 87

Oleeta “Sue” McQueen, age 87 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Evers and Brian McQueen. Pallbearers will be Chris Cravatta and Kurt Robson.
Sue was born in Fairfield, IL on October 13, 1931, the daughter of Walter and Callie (Cravens) Pool. She graduated from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL in 1949. Sue received her Bachelor of Science Degree, Physical Education from Illinois State University in Normal, IL in 1953 and her Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University in 1987. She married John “Jack” McQueen on November 20, 1954 in Waukegan, IL. Sue was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chapter MH of the International Chapter P.E.O. Sisterhood and the YWCA. She was a certified American Red Cross Instructor.
Sue taught Physical Education at Mt. St. Clare College from 1966 until she retired in 1997. While at the Mount she served as assistant coach for the Mt. St. Clare Academy’s girls volleyball and basketball teams from 1975 – 1978 and was the Athletic Director for Mt. St. Clare College from 1988 to 1990. In May of 1996 Sue was awarded the Mt. St. Clare College’s Founder Award For Distinguished Service to Mt. St. Clare College and in November of 1997 was inducted into Mt. St. Clare College Athletic Hall of Fame. She served as the Physical Director for the YWCA and was an Aquatic Instructor and Guard.
Sue is survived by her husband Jack; a daughter, Jan (Richard) Reusche of Clinton; a son, Michael (Julie) McQueen of Bettendorf; 5 grandchildren, Sara (Terry) Nash, Jennifer McQueen, Brian (Lindy) McQueen, Benjamin Evers and Renae Council; 5 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Hayden Randolph, Dylan Council, Matthew Nash and Braxton McQueen and a sister, Gala (Paul Seday) Herner of Gurnee, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Clinton YWCA.
