Luella E. Soenksen Anderson, age 94 of Clinton, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Alverno. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 22, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 9:00 AM until the service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren and a nephew, Rich Matzen.
Luella was born in Bryant, Iowa on November 29, 1925, the daughter of Otto D. and Augusta (Jensen) Naeve. She graduated from Miles High School in 1942. Luella married Robert A. Soenksen on April 16, 1950 in Clinton. Robert passed away on April 22, 1964. She later married Kenneth I. Anderson on October 14, 1978 in Clinton. Kenneth passed away on June 6, 2004. Luella was employed with the Clinton County Auditor’s Office at the Courthouse for 23 years, serving as Clinton County Auditor retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and its Sewing Circle and the Ladies Aid Society. She also was a member of WA-TAN-YE. Luella enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo at The Alverno, raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to dance, especially at the Coliseum, Modernistic, and Fairyland Ballroom, and never missed watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday night.
Luella is survived by 3 children; Ron (Barb) Soenksen of Wilton, IA, Jim (Maureen) Soenksen of Atlanta, GA and Cindy (Cal) Swanson of Clinton; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her husband Kenneth; a son, Tom and a daughter-in-law, Julie; and 2 sisters, Arline Matzen and Naberta Tietjens; and her special nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in Luella’s name to the Alverno, St. John Lutheran Church or ALS. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
