Isobel “Sindy” McDonnell age 90 of DeWitt passed away Thursday July 16, 2020 at her home.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday July 20th at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton.  Visitation will be held Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton.  Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt following the service.  Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.  Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.

     Sindy was born on Aug. 30, 1929 in Hutchison, KS, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Carter) Sindelar.  She graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1947.  She married Paul McDonnell on Nov. 3, 1956 in Muscatine, IA; he died in 2007.  She worked as the church secretary at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt for many years and at the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce.  Sindy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Red Hats Club, and active with C.E.W.  She enjoyed baking especially her brownies, spending time with her family, going on car rides, and going to the truck stop in Welton for their biscuits and gravy. Every year her Christmas gift to her family was adding a chapter to her memoir. She was known by her grandchildren as the “grandma with the cookies.” She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

     Sindy is survived by her nine “perfect” children, Cynthia Yegge of Walla Walla, WA, Robert (Connie) McDonnell of Ft. Worth, TX, John (Deb) McDonnell of Salem, OR, David McDonnell of DeWitt, Mary Beth Youmans of Welton, IA, Kathleen Dunnegan of Alexandria, VA, Steven (Carol) McDonnell of DeWitt, Matthew (Tamara) McDonnell of DeWitt, and Susan (Darrell) Warren of Grand Mound, IA; 24 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Van (Shirley) Sindelar of Shakopee, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Ed and Carter, daughter-in-law, Kari Ann, and a son-in-law, Joe.  

Visitation:

Visitation will be held Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton.

Service:

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday July 20th at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt following the service.

    So sorry for your loss. Your Mom had a long and beautiful life with her loving family at her side. She will be missed by many, but always be instilled in your hearts with all those precious memories she made with each of you.
