Gail Russell age 95 of Clinton, passed away Saturday July 14, 2018 at her home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday July 21st at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday 10:00 AM until the service hour at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Heartland Pet Welfare, First Congregational Church, Clinton Public Library, or Mercy Hospice. Gail was born on March 12, 1923 in Hanover, IL, the daughter of Wallace and Jessie (Limage) Mosely. She grew up in Anamosa, IA, graduating from Anamosa High School and later from the University of Iowa. She married John Russell on Dec. 27, 1944 in Anamosa, IA, he died in 2008. She moved with her family to Clinton in 1954. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Clinton Community Schools and as Program Director for the Gateway YWCA for 13 years, initiated the homebound program at the Clinton Public Library, and later retiring from the physical therapy department at the former Jane Lamb Hospital.
Gail was a member of First Congregational Church, Clinton, where she was active in the Sunday School and Eliot Guild, Mercy Auxiliary, Friends of the Library, and the Clinton Coalition for the Disabled. She was an avid reader, reading over 1230 books from the local public library since she started keeping track in 1988. She also enjoyed knitting in her spare time.
Gail is survived by her two sons, Scott Russell of Clinton and Stuart (Barbara) Russell of Clinton; five grandchildren, Bill (Melissa) Russell of West Branch, IA, Jay Russell of North Liberty, IA, Jennifer (Tom) Kubly of Denver, CO, Brian Russell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ellen (Alan) Ward of Glorieta, NM; 10 great granddaughters; and a great-great granddaughter, Brylee; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John of 63 years, her son, Stephen in 2016, and her only sister.
