     Evelyn Mary Smith, age 102 of Clinton, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Eagle Point Nursing Home.  In following Evelyn’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded.  A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 27 at Springdale Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

 

     Evelyn was born in Davenport on November 12, 1917, the daughter of Carlo and Maria (Tucci) Grandinetti.  She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Davenport.  She married Eugene W. Smith on April 22, 1948 in davenport.  Eugene passed away in 1996.  Following high school Evelyn was employed at Parker’s Department Store in Davenport. During WW II she worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, later she and her husband worked in the family business, Smith Brothers General Store in Clinton for many years.  She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish.

 

     Evelyn was beloved by her many friends and had a passion for reading, which she passed on to her daughters.  In her younger days she enjoyed golfing, recording a hole in one at the Duck Creek Golf Course.  She and her husband loved original jazz music and dancing.  She was a life-long Cub fan.

 

     Evelyn is survived by 2 daughters, Linda A. Smith of Clinton and Cynthia M. (Dennis) Ingenthron of Tucson, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Ben, Tony and Elizabeth; 2 great granddaughters, Eris and Shyla and 3 nephews, Millard Smith, Gene Smith and Steve Smith.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 5 brothers, Sam, Art, Fred, Michael and Albert.  Memorials in Evelyn’s name may be made to the Clinton Humane Association or Eagle Point Nursing Home.  

Graveside Service:

In following Evelyn’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 27 at Springdale Cemetery.

    The Smith's were our neighbors on 14th Ave South, growing up. Evelyn was a dear lady, had great snacks for us girls. It's been ages since I have seen any of the Smith family, but Linda and Cindy, you have my deepest sympathy. Mary Benson
