Robert L. Wright age 86 of Clinton, passed away Friday Jan. 31, 2020 at The Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday Feb. 8th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday 4 – 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tyler, Blake, Matt, Alex Wright and Luke, Cody, Kenneth Snodgrass. Robert was born on April 3, 1933 in Clinton, the son of Leroy and Katherine (Bolte) Wright. He served in the US Navy from 1950-1953 during the Korean Conflict while serving on the USS Robert K. Huntington DD781. Robert married Leona Diettrick on Jan. 30, 1955 in Clinton, she died in 2009. He worked at Collis Company, Clinton for many years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton Engineers, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital from 2007-2020, accumulating 7256 hours of service and people referred to him as the face of Mercy. He was the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award at Mercy.
Robert is survived by 9 children, Robert (Teresa) Wright, Keith Wright, Roy (Kay) Wright, and Steve Wright all of Clinton, and Gary (Melissa) Wright of Fayetteville, GA, Lorraine Wright of Urbandale, Carolyn (Duane) Meyer of Stillman Valley, IL, Joanne Grimes of Morrison, IL, and Nona (Kenneth) Snodgrass of Dewitt; 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; his brother, Ed Wright of Minnesota; 2 sisters, Jeri Hand of Camanche and Dixie (James) Kirschbaum of Moline, IL; and his sister-in-law, Janet Wright of Payson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Leona, 2 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Thomas, Ken, and Chuck, and a sister, Betty.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 7th from 4 – 7 PM at the Pape Funeral Home.
