Norman H. Tollenaar age 81 of Fulton, IL, passed away Friday April 3, 2020 at The Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. According to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
Norm was born on Sept. 6, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Harold and Norma (Fife) Tollenaar. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1956. He served in the US Navy, where he was a nuclear weapons specialist. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Clinton serving as a police officer for seven years. He married Joyce Balk on Dec. 19, 1959 in Fulton, IL for 49 years, she died in 2009. Norm worked as a Lab Technician for Clinton Corn, ADM, for 33 years. On his days off, he spent his time fishing.
Norm is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Doug) Sanders of Iowa City; his son, David (Diane) Tollenaar of Clinton; three grandchildren, Delaney, Sara, and Shea; his three sisters, Karen (Dick) Miller, Bonnie (Harv) Evers, and Susan (Tim) Sung; his soulmate, Judy Price of Wheatland; and his “Fall Trip Boys”, Bruce McAlpine, Tom Mulholland, Dick Miller, Steve Miller, John Mulholland, and Don Obermiller. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Joyce.
