James W. “Jim” Stoddard, age 79 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with a Rose Croix service scheduled for 6:30 PM. Following the services cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Jim was born in Iowa City, Iowa on July 3, 1939, the son of Frederick A. and Mary A. (Parsons) Stoddard. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1956 thru 1960 as a cook on board the USS Casa Grande. He also served 2 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Jim married Beatrice DiGregorio on June 19, 1959 in Sabula. He later married Janice Jordan on August 3, 1979 in Clinton. Janice passed away on October 1, 2005. Jim married Dr. Solona Smith Ryan on April 25, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, FL. Jim had been employed at National By-Products and following his retirement he worked several years at O’Reilly Auto Parts. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Savanna, the Clinton Masonic Lodge and the AMVETS. Jim loved traveling, especially on cruise ships, cooking, John Wayne movies and socializing. He was a friendly, out-going, hard-working honest man.
Jim is survived by wife Solona; 3 sons; James (Tami) Stoddard, Joseph (Sharon) Stoddard, and Jon (Angela) Stoddard all of Clinton; 2 step-sons, Terry (Jami) Jordan of Davenport and Doug Ryan of St. Petersburg, FL; 2 step-daughters, Sharon Jenkins of St. Petersburg and Marilyn Smith of Lawrenceburg, TN; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Myrna Dague of Camanche, Sally (Terry) Norman of Sabula and Mary Bernal of Tucson, AZ; 1 brother, Ronald “Red” (Joyce) Stoddard of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nick and 2 brothers, Martin and Edward. Memorials may be made to Clothe a Child or Little Free Pantry.
