Carolyn “Sue” Richeal, age 81 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Mercy Living Center South. In following Sue’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9:30 A.M. until the service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Sue was born in Humboldt, Nebraska on April 22, 1936, the daughter of Eugene E. and Esther (Hudson) Phillips. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School and attended Denver University for 2 years. Sue married Gary D. Richeal on May 21, 1955 in Sioux City, Iowa. Gary passed away 2007.She had worked as a secretary at Pillsbury, A.C. Nielsen, Clinton Abstract and Title, and 3M. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she played in the hand bell choir, taught Sunday school and was involved with the tutoring program between the church and Bluff Elementary School. She was a member of the American Cancer Board, active with the PTA and both the Boy and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. Sue is survived by four children; Douglas A. Richeal of Clinton, Scott E. Richeal of Donahue, IA, Julie A. (Jerry) Butz of St. Louis and Elaine A. (Bob) Mahon of Seattle; six grandchildren, Kelly Rodenburg, Eric Richeal, Andrew Richeal, Stefanie Morsey, Greg Butz and Sophia Mahon; two great grandchildren, Ben and Max Morsey and her brother, Gordon (Lou) Phillips of Atwater, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Memorials in Sue’s name may be made to the 1st United Methodist Church or Mercy Living Center South.
