Arline L. Matzen, age 89, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM until the service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jonathan Matzen, Ryan Smith, Jeremy Pessman, Michael Pessman, Tom Soenksen, Ron Soenksen and Jim Soenksen. Honorary casket bearers will be Cal Swanson, Mark Pasker, Mark Kaufman, and Tom Palsgrove. Arline was born in Bryant, Iowa on September 24, 1928, the daughter of Otto D. and Augusta (Jensen) Naeve. She graduated from Miles High School in 1945. Arline married Fred W. Matzen on May 23, 1954 at St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. Fred passed away on March 7, 2001. Arline worked in the Auditor’s Office at the Clinton County Court House from November 4, 1964 to September 14, 1990. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and it’s Sewing Circle. She was also a member of 55 Alive, Christian Women and Republican Women. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, cooking, baking, and traveling. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Arline is survived by a son, Richard A. Matzen of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Tonya (Ryan) Smith, Jonathan (Carrie) Matzen, Michael (Molly) Pessman, Jeremy (Holly) Pessman and Holly (Mark) Kaufman; 24 great grandchildren; her sister, Luella Anderson of Clinton and a special thanks to her many nieces and nephews that have done so much for her over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Naberta Tietjens. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
