Steven P. Borota age 81 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the church and also from 10:00 AM until the service time Saturday. Pallbearers will be Jim, John, Brian, and Matt Borota, Gregg Jensen and Brian Wall. Honorary pallbearers will be Verne Larson, Harvey Evers and Don Obermiller. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Steve was born in Kewanee, IL on May 17, 1937, the son of Peter and Marie (Hassen) Borota. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1955. Steve married Joan Jensen on November 11, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Steve served with the US Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He retired as Assistant Fire Chief from the Clinton Fire Department in 1987. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for over 50 years. Steve played softball with the fire department team for many years. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, woodworking, working in the yard, as well as feeding and watching the birds. Steve was a handyman who helped many people with various projects and was well known for being an excellent cook. But more than anything, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Joan; three children, Jill (Tim) Marks of Minneapolis and their son Ben; Jody (Michael) Becker of Fairfax, VA and their sons Samuel and Maxwell; Kent (Sheila) Borota of Marshalltown and their children, Jennifer (Blake) Klinefelter, Kyle Borota, Brittany and Brady Arment; and one great granddaughter, Brooke. Steve is also survived by his brother, James T. (Dessa) Borota of Clinton and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Peter, Paul and Phillip. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton Firefighters Local 609 or Camp Courageous.
