Melissa "Missi" Petersen - 49

     Melissa M. “Missi” Petersen, age 49 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Pape Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.


     Missi was born in Carson City, CA on December 23, 1969, the daughter of Robert and Georgina (Timber) Peterson.  She graduated from Clinton High School in1988 and later from Capri College in Davenport.  Missi was married to Ron Burken in August of 1989 for 10 years in Clinton.  She later married Phil Petersen on October 24, 2007 in Clinton.  Missi had been employed at Community Care and Pathways.  She had been a hairdresser and a veterinarian technician at the Camanche Veterinarian Clinic and as a DJ with Norfolk Entertainment.  Missi enjoyed bowling, boating, motorcycling and cinnamon whiskey.  She had a love of dogs and followed the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa State Cyclones, the Oakland Raiders and the Chicago Bears.   


     Missi is survived by her husband Phil; four daughters, Jamie (Tony) Kirk of Andover, Samantha (Dan Gifford) Burken of Camanche, Candace (Chris Brown) Burken of DeWitt and Abigail Petersen (Joshua Hinkle) of Clinton; a son Zachary Petersen (Shelby Parris) of Goose Lake; five grandchildren, Noah, Jayden, Broly, Jasper and Oliver; her father Robert Peterson of Ackley, IA; a brother Rob Peterson of Clinton and a sister Kathyjo (Randy) Miller of Ackley, IA.  She was preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents.  Memorials may be made to Cancer Research.  


Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.

    Phil and Missi, you guys have ran in the same crowd with me for years. Always greeted me with a smile and even opened your home to us. Missi never knew a stranger and she loved doing her karaoke. Missi you will be greatly missed. Give Laura and Jane a big kiss for me and take one for yourself.  I love you all and hope to see you again on the other side

    Missi & I had our ups & downs that is for sure. Even through all of the negative, she always greeted me with a smile. She was the first one to introduce me to Fireball, calling it the Nectar of the Gods. I am sure the good Lord has plenty up there for her!! Missi, you were a true warrior in every sense of the word. May you Rest In Paradise!!
