Clinton, Iowa William A. “Bill” Roberts, age 93 of Clinton, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center North. In following William’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Pape Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 P.M. Burial will be at a later date in Springdale Cemetery. Bill was born in Seattle, WA on November 1, 1924, the son of William Arthur and Bess (Bay) Roberts, Sr. He graduated from Soldan High School in St. Louis. He received his undergraduate degree from Southeast Missouri State and his Master’s Degree in Sociology and History from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. He served in the U.S. Army with General Patton’s 3rd Army in the European Theater during W.W. II, including the Battle of the Bulge. Bill married Bernadette Broadrick on September 27, 1946 in Cape Girardeau, MO. Bill was head of the Sociology Department at Clinton Community College and also taught night classes at Mt. St. Clare College. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed music, dancing to big band music, fishing, especially at Pequot Lakes in Minnesota, and socializing. He loved to teach and tell stories. Bill is survived by his wife, Bernadette; three children, William A. (Julie) Roberts of West Palm Beach. FL, Katherine (Steve) Regenwether of Memphis, TN and Kenneth (Adonna) Roberts of Hillsdale, IL; 10 grandchildren, Julie, Cristella, Danielle, Will, Eric, Matthew, Jedediah, Jocelyn, Dominque and Gabrielle and 9 great grandchildren. Shorty is survived by his wife, Terri Fierce of Camanche; four children, Kellie (Tim) Carter, Eric Fierce, Michelle Lyons all of Princeton, IA, Christina (Jim Lathrop) Lyons of Sabula, IA and Jonnie Bernauer of Camanche, whom he considered a son; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Orly was born at home in Lyons, Iowa on November 4, 1948, the son of Donald and Clara (Eislage) Campbell. He graduated in 1969 from Clinton High School. He married Marsha Ann Gladhill on January 10, 1998 in Clinton. His work career started very early in life, helping his father with his business in commercial fishing. He also worked at Snyder’s Produce. As an adult he worked for Clinton Corn Processing, Foley Construction, McCarthy-Bush Construction, Allied Barton, and G4S Security. His hands were never idle, he loved making things in his spare time and his passion was fishing and his family. Orlin was most known for his huge garden he planted every year. Orlin never met a stranger; he was a gentle man who made friends wherever he went. He was very generous; he would gladly help anyone who was in need. Survivors include his wife, Marsha; his sons, Brent (Tami) Tinderholt , Chad ( Cindy) Tinderholt, Tony (Bethany) Tinderholt, and Charles (Katarzyna) Parson; his daughters, Bobbi Howard and Rachael (Jonathan) Fink; 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; several special friends who were like family, Carl, Jim, Linda, Michelle, Jennifer and Ashley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Orlin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Madonna Jacobsen and Jo Ann Fuidge, and brother, James Campbell.

She married Howard Munck in 1978 in Las Vegas, NV; he died in 2004. She worked at A.C. Nielsen Company, Clinton as a secretary for many years. She is survived by her two children, Carol (Rick) Sames of Ankeny, IA and Tom Adler of Battle Ground, WA; three grandchildren, Taylor, Alexis, and Nikki; and three great grandchildren, Lincoln, Maloree, and Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vinall, husband, Howard, two sisters, and a brother.

Tim was born on Nov. 23, 1921, in Clinton, the son of Joseph and Edna (McNamara) Mullen. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He served in the US Marine Corp during WWII in the South Pacific. “He was sworn in on Oct. 16, 1942, sworn out on Oct. 16, 1945, and sworn at in between.” He married Marilyn Sander on Feb. 12, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church; she died in 2012. Tim worked at E.I. DuPont as a machine operator for many years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton Bowling Association, Clinton AMVETS, Eagles Club, and a lifetime member of the Clinton Moose Lodge. Tim enjoyed doing crossword puzzles every day and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Tim is survived by his three children, Karilyn (Larry) Bahnsen of Dewitt, Kristy (Lyle) Eberhart of Dewitt, and Tim (Joy) Mullen of Toccoa, GA; eight grandchildren, Chris, Kari, Erin, Michael, Amanda, Jason, Jared, and Jessica; 14 great grandchildren, Adam, Ashlyn, Addi, Karlee, Taylor, Cole, Jack, Brenna, Brylee, Rowen, Rylen, Shelby, Jovi, and Bridgett. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, and a brother.

Clinton, Iowa Madonna M. Waters Gibson, 88 of Clinton passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Alverno surrounded by her family. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home and Friday at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Delmar, Iowa. Madonna Mary Pestka was born May 26, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph A. and Marie Schreiner Pestka. She attended Catholic schools and graduated from Mount St. Clare Academy in 1947. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone, Sweetheart Bakery and retired from A.C. Nielsen Co. in 1987. She married Donald T. Waters January 13, 1951. He preceded her in death March 16, 1962. She later married Stuart H. Gibson March 6, 1970. He preceded her in death November 24, 1986. Donna was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Parish Funeral Luncheon Team and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings, ballroom dancing, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, camping and traveling. Donna is survived by her children: Dan (Teresa) Waters, Thomas Waters, Clinton; Lynn (Tom) Bonnell, Franklin Grove, IL; Patrick (Donna) Waters, Gurnee, IL; Lisa (Ken) Watson, Winnebago, IL; four grandchildren: Nick (Courtney) Waters, Johnston, IA; Ryan (Christy) Waters, West Des Moines, IA; Neil (Lindsay Schroeder) Waters, Clinton, IA; Kayla (Jeff) Pitts, West Des Moines, IA; six great grandchildren: Leila and Lenyn Waters, Clinton, IA; Liam and Lucy Waters, Johnston, IA; Logan and Ella Waters, West Des Moines, IA; two sisters: Ruth (Bob) Jost and Gerry (Ron) Dixon, Clinton, IA. Donna is additionally survived by the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Stuart H. Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joan Miller. Edith Reiss Pfeffer - 76

Clinton, Iowa Edith Reiss Pfeffer, age 76 of Clinton, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. The Lord called her home quickly soon after she suffered a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the Lone Tree Cemetery, Lone Tree, Iowa. Edith was born in Iowa City to Harry and Erma (Hall) Reiss. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Simpson College in 1964 and her Masters of Science in Home Economics from Iowa State in 1970. She taught in the Western Dubuque School District from 1965 – 1969 before moving to Clinton to teach at Clinton High School from 1970 - 1978. Edith married Paul Pfeffer on July 24, 1971, at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton. Later, she served as the Office Manager for her husband’s law practice in Clinton until his death in 2005. Edith was an active community organizer who devoted over 40 years of service to the Clinton area. She served as Secretary of the YWCA Board of Directors from 1979 – 1981, the chairwoman of the City of Clinton Board of Adjustment from 1981 to 1984, the President of the Clinton Symphony Guild from 1986 to 1989, the Music Chairwoman of Art’s Alive from 1991 to 1992, a Member of Seventh Judicial District Nominating Commission from 2001 to 2003, Coordinator of Character Counts of Clinton County from 2001 to 2003, and the Chairwoman of Clinton County Day at the Iowa Legislature from 2004 – 2011. She is a former member of the Advisory Board for the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, the past Chairwoman of U.S. Highway 30 Coalition of Eastern Iowa and the Past Chairwoman of U.S. Highway 30 Coalition of Iowa. She was also the past chairwoman of the Clinton County Republican Central Committee and President of the Clinton County Republican Women. Up until her death, she was a member of the Clinton Rotary Club, Clinton Trees Forever, and the Clinton Landlord Association. She was appointed by the Governor of Iowa to the Mississippi River Parkway Commission (MRPC) Iowa Great River Road Association in 2011 and again in 2015, most recently serving as the Chairwoman. She celebrated Clinton every day and loved being able to tell the other parts of the country about the great things to do with a river view. Among her many awards were the YWCA Women of Action Award, the Clinton County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award, the Al Wise Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteer and the Annual Pilots award for the MRPC for the State of Iowa. Edith is survived by two daughters, Emily Pfeffer of Marion, Iowa and Laura Pfeffer (Nick Coleman) of Alexandria, VA; a granddaughter, Edith Marguerite Coleman; a sister, Ethel (Schafer) Bean of Palm Coast, FL; brother-in-law John Cavanah of Burlington, IA ; two nephews, Andy (Nicole) Cavanah and Scott (Paige) Cavanah and a niece, Jennifer (McKenzie) Norris as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to the birth of her grandson around Valentine's Day. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials made to local community attractions which she tirelessly promoted through her work as an Iowa Parkway Commissioner, such as the Clinton County Eco Tourism Center, Clinton County Felix Adler Discovery Center, Clinton Sawmill Museum or the charity of your choice. She married Richard Byam on October 30, 2001 in Clinton. Swade had worked as a waitress and later as a bartender at the Sabula VFW. She also did in home care. She was associated with the Church of the Open Door. Swade enjoyed camping, shooting guns, being outdoors, walks in the timber, mushroom hunting and fishing, especially cat fishing on the Maquoketa River at Cod Fish Hollow. Swade is survived by her husband Rick; three children, Raymond D, Byam of Clinton, Tristen W. Byam of Clinton and Rhiannon R. Byam of DeWitt; three grandchildren, Julie, Willow and Emery; her father, Wade Fallesen of Clinton; her sister, Connie Lou Fallensen of Maquoketa and two nieces, Patience and Karly Swade. She was preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents.

Mary Ann Stuedemann - 73

1/27/1944 - 1/21/2018 Mary Ann Stuedemann, 73, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer. She faced her illness with courage and a positive attitude up until the day she passed. Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday Jan. 27th at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton, IA. She was born on January 27, 1944, to George and Ida Washburn in Seattle, WA, while her father served in the US Coast Guard. She attended grade school in Wheatland, IA, and Junior High and High School in Calamus, IA where she graduated in 1962. She then attended cosmetology school and was a beautician for several years. While in cosmetology school, she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) T. Stuedemann, when she went on a blind date with him. They were married on February 13, 1965 at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumus, IA. They had been married for 47 years when he passed on April 3th, 2012. Mary Ann did various kinds of work in the Clinton area over the years. She met many wonderful people and friends, many of which she had kept in contact with throughout her life. She retired in 2006 from McGladrey & Pullen in Clinton, IA. After retiring, she took great joy in traveling and having family and friends over to the house to enjoy her swimming pool. She took pride in all the flowers in her backyard around her pool. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending all their events. Mary Ann also loved to travel. She has attended the Vietnam reunions all over the US, been on cruises and trips to tropical islands, including Hawaii. She has also traveled to Japan, Mexico, Aruba, the Bahama’s, and the Cayman Islands. One of her most treasured trips was to the Cayman Islands where she went with Bob just weeks before his passing. She was a long-time member of Community Congregational Church in Clinton, IA, where she had many friends who supported her through her illness. She loved her church and the people of her congregation. She is survived by her son, Troy (Nancy) Stuedemann of Clinton, IA, her daughter, Darcie (Chad) Melody, of LeClaire, IA, four grandchildren, Cole (Marquel) Stuedemann of Union, MO, Abby Stuedemann of Iowa City, IA, and Collin and Paige Melody of LeClaire, IA, one sister, Nancy (Alan) Elias of Davenport, IA, a sister-in-law Barb (Tom) Neill of Clinton, IA, as well as a number nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Ida Washburn, and her loving husband of 47 years, Bob. May she be free and fly with the angels now!

She worked at A.C. Nielsen for over 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Community Congregational Church. Venita enjoyed fishing, especially trips to Minnesota and Canada, camping and crocheting. Survivors include, daughter Sharon (Alan) Dierks of Camanche; son Dennis (Katie) Hebdon of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Hebdon of Minneapolis MN, Jayson (Carol) Hebdon of Robins, IA, Brenda (Kent) Schreiber of Miles, IA, and Beth (Pam Norman)Dierks of Clinton, IA; 6 great-grandchildren, Jayson Hebdon Jr., Joseph Hebdon, Tessa Hebdon, Karissa Wilfong, Vincent Schreiber and Wyatt Schreiber. She is preceded in death by her husband, 3 sisters, and a brother.
