Clinton, Iowa Stephen O. Cooley age 72 of Clinton, passed away Friday March 10, 2017 at his home. Memorial services are planned for 2:00 PM Sunday March 19th at the Pape Funeral Home. Gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday 12:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will be held at Clinton Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com. Stephen was born in Clinton, IA on January 2, 1945, the son of Orville and Enid (Hoeft) Cooley. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1964. He was married to Rosie Judge for 22 years and the couple raised three children. He was then married to Lisa Schrader for 19 years and the couple later divorced. Stephen was employed in the Litho Department as a Pressman at International Paper for more than 30 years, retiring when the plant closed in 2001. He was employed at Mufflers, Inc. for many years as well as a Security Guard with Wild Rose Casino for more than five years. Stephen was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an avid NASCAR fan. Stephen is survived by two sons, Mark (Heather) Cooley and their children JT, Makenzie, Maddux & Cooper of Clinton and Tony (Kristine) Cooley and their children Drew, BJ and Brooklyn of Clinton; one daughter, Laurie Soesbe and her children Abby, Libby and Erin of Clinton; four brothers, Jeff (Ellen) Cooley of Clinton; Charles (Barb) Cooley of Clinton; Tom (Jeanette) Cooley of Norcross, GA; Paul (Lorine) Cooley of Auburn, GA; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also, special friends, Jon Abbott and MaDonna Chase both of Clinton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the family.

Low Moor, Iowa Paul E. “Bing” Nielsen age 84 of Low Moor, passed away Wednesday March 8, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday 2 – 5 PM at the Pape Funeral Home. He served with the US Air Force from 1952-1956 and retired from the Reserves in 1960. Paul married Bernice Latimer on Jan. 27, 1955 in Low Moor. He worked as a machine operator with E.I. DuPont, Clinton. Paul enjoyed collecting HO Scale Trains, reading, and working on lawn mowers. Paul is survived by his wife, Bernice Nielsen of Low Moor; five children, Brenda Jo (Brian) Melby of Tarpon Springs, FL, Bruce (Tami) Nielsen of Clinton, Brent Nielsen of Low Moor, Teresa Rowson of Low Moor, and Grant (Darla Hoerner) Nielsen of Grand Mound; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Paul was the last surviving member of the Alvin and Ethel Nielsen family. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 P.M. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Steve was born in Clinton on December 28, 1956, the son of Joseph and Verda (Kubert) Cox. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1975. Steve married Becky Weburg in Prophetstown, IL in 1985. He later married Linda King on December 9, 2005 in Clinton. Linda passed away on December 6, 2015. Steve was employed with ESB at Ralston Purina. He was a member of the Eagles Club. Steve was a fan of the Chicago Cub’s and Bear’s and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed socializing with his many friends. Steve is survived by five sisters; Deb (Glenn) Plummer of Camanche, Holly (Dave) Cale of Clinton, Wendy (Larry) Hoertz of Savanna, Laurie (Randy) Pierce of Altoona, IA and Karla (Bryon) Sheker of Clinton; a brother, Terry Cox of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Linda and a niece, Kaitlyn.

She married Kenneth Jensen on May 4, 1963 in Clinton. Carol worked as a nurse’s aide at the former Jane Lamb Hospital, Clinton and also worked at Homer’s Deli. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, shopping, watching soap operas, and riding motorcycle. She was an avid Isabel Bloom and Precious Moments collector. Carol is survived by her husband, Kenneth Jensen of Clinton; three sons, Joseph (Christine) Jensen of Savanna, IL, Jason Jensen of Greeley, CO, and Jared Jensen of Old Hickory, TN; three grandchildren, Justin (Erica), Jazzlyn and Will; and a great-granddaughter, Brielle. She was preceded in death by her parents.

He had worked as a cook. He loved to play billiards and spending time with his friends and family. Todd was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan; and an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Todd is survived by his wife, Deb Allen of Camanche; a son, Bram Judge of Clinton; a grandson, Dawson Judge; and a sister, Michelle (Adam) Wirth of Rome, GA; two nephews, Zach and Zane and a niece, Zoe. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.

Ruth was born on Sept. 10, 1921 in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Charlie and Lena (Otten) McMahon. She married Ervin Luckritz in 1942 in Manhattan, KS; he died in 1984. She touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her. Ruth loved to travel to California to visit her daughters and to Minneapolis to visit her sons. She enjoyed gardening; she had a marvelous green thumb, which was envied by many. Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor and had an infectious laugh. Ruth is survived by her five children, Linda (Bob) Irby and Paula Kavanaugh both of San Rafael, CA, Rita (Kathleen) Jones of Novato, CA, Gary (Shirley) Luckritz of Morrison, IL, and Ellen (Tim Bannister) Luckritz of Walla Walla, WA; five grandchildren, Leslie, Eric, Lena, Clint, and Josh; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, June Orsi and Dolores Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Keith, and two brothers.

She married Richard Kerberskey on Sept. 19, 1964 in Alanson, MI. She worked for Mo-Tech Manufacturing in Harbor Springs, MI as a machine operator and at Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley, IA. She enjoyed her flowers, watching the cardinals in her yard, and spending time with her grandchildren. Jacqueline is survived by her husband, Richard Kerberskey of Clinton; her daughter, Cindy (Glenn) Velchansky of Clinton, IA; her son, Robert Kerberskey of Camanche, IA; three grandchildren, Rob, Jonathan, and Stephanie; her great grandson, Maxton; and a sister, Frances Midyett of Indian River, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Becky, a brother, Ted, and a sister, Beth.

Preston, IA Lori Sue (Hoffman) Gerardy, age 52 of Preston, died Monday February 27th at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, as a result of a head injury from a fall. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 3rd at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Thursday, March 2nd at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Lori was born on January 10, 1965 in Clinton, the daughter of Larry and Lois (Yaddof) Hoffman. She attended Preston High School and graduated with the class of 1984. After graduation Lori worked at Mercy Hospital in Clinton. She also worked as a CNA at Crestridge in Maquoketa and at the DeWitt hospital. She was married in 1987 and lived in Maquoketa, IA and later moved to Preston, IA. Her first child Alissa Lynn was born in 1990 followed by Matthew John in 1992. Lori was always smiling and loved her family more than anything, including her four grand dogs; Titan, Claire, Moose and Luna. She cared about everyone who was a part of her life. She was a wonderful godmother to Lance and aunt to Lance, Bree, Brooke, Garrett and Grace. Lori had a big heart and could be counted on to remember birthdays, anniversaries and the names of everyone’s children, grandchildren and pets. She was always there to help when needed. Lori was a cancer survivor and a die-hard Hawkeye fan. She loved to play cards, especially spades, and loved to watch Days of our Lives and Wheel of Fortune, which she was the best at. We will miss her banana bread, pumpkin and cornflake cookies, but most of all we will miss her! Lori is survived by her two children, Alissa (Adam) Gudenkauf of Canton, IA and Matthew Gerardy of Preston, IA; her parents, Larry and Lois Hoffman of Preston; and her sister Lisa (Greg) Feller of Pekin, IL. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Aloysius and Magdalena Hoffman and Norma and Elmer Yaddof Sr., and a sister Linda Bormann who met her with open arms in heaven. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. A private Burial will be held at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Darline was born in Lyons on June 26, 1937, the daughter of Lloyd and Edith (Gorsuch) McDonald. She attended Lyons Schools and graduated from Clinton High School. Darline married Robert Dierks on June 19, 1955 in Clinton. She had been employed at Snack Harbor, J.C. Penney’s and had owned and operated the Fashion Shoppe on Main Ave. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and gathered with the same card club for over 60 years. Caring for her kids, grandkids, and great grandchildren was her life. She enjoyed family potlucks, casino bus trips, and the cabin on the river. Darline is survived by her husband, Robert; four children, Don (Ruth) Dierks of Clinton, Debbie (Bart) Espey of Clinton, Susie (Todd) Watts of Davenport and Jeff (Alicia) Dierks of Clinton; 7 grandchildren, Sara (Mark) Rolston, Elizabeth (Brock) Swan, Greg (Eileen) Espey, Bobbie Sue Watts, Stephanie Watts, Brandon Dierks and Bradley Dierks; 12 great grandchildren, Mehgan, Devvin, Nolan, Landon, Jade, Alex, Charlee, Kinley, Isaiah, Emrie, Aria and Oakley; two sisters, Marilyn Thomsen of Low Moor and Janet Bahnsen of Clinton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eugene “Sonny” McDonald; a sister, Joan Hagge and a brother-in-law, Paul “Hawk” Bahnsen. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Sister Yvonne Hawker - 67

Clinton, IA Sister Yvonne Hawker, OSF, 67, died on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, CA. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday March 17, 2017 at the Canticle. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Canticle. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Yvonne, the daughter of Eldon and Patricia (Dolan) Hawker, was born on August 15, 1949, in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She was baptized at St. Helena’s Catholic Church on September 11, 1949. She attended Jane Neil Elementary School in Chicago and St. Jude the Apostle School in South Holland, IL. She graduated from St. Elizabeth Seton High School in South Holland in 1967. Yvonne entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa, on August 25, 1967, and returned to secular life at the end of her novitiate in July, 1969. When the call to religious life persisted, she re-entered the congregation in August, 1972. She pronounced temporary vows in 1973 and perpetual vows in 1982. Sister Yvonne earned two bachelor’s degrees, one with a double major in Theology and Education from St. Xavier College, Chicago, and the second in Business Administration from Mt. St. Clare College. She also had a Master of Religious Education degree from Seattle University. She was certified as a K-9 teacher and held a certificate to teach RCIA from the North American Forum Catechumenate. Sister Yvonne ministered as an elementary teacher in both El Cajon and Riverside, California, as well as at St. Justin the Martyr School in St. Louis. She worked in the Registrar’s office at Mount St. Clare College from 1989-91. In California, she served as the Director of Religious Education at St. Anthony Parish in Manteca , St. Kieran Parish in El Cajon, and at St. Margaret Catholic Community in Oceanside. Sister Yvonne also worked as an administrative assistant for several years, including her last six years of active ministry at The North County Health Services in San Marco, CA. She retired in 2011. Sister Yvonne is survived by her brother James (Sheila) of Glenwood, IL, her sister Susan Davies of Des Plaines, IL, and her Clinton Franciscan Sisters, Sojourners, and Associates. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Thomas.
