Clinton, Iowa Donald F. “Gus” Witt age 90 of Clinton, passed away Thursday Oct. 26, 2017 at The Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com. Gus was born on March 9, 1927 in Clinton, the son of Fred and Clara (Huebner) Witt. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1945. He served in the US Army from 1950-1952. At the age of 14, he tried out for the New York Yankees. He played minor league baseball in the US and Japan prior to playing with the Chicago Cubs from 1948-1949. He married Mildred Marken on July 6, 1974 in Clinton; she died in 2010. He worked as Mason Bricklayer for Local Union #26 in Clinton, where he retired. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Gus taught ice skating to kids and helped coach baseball for the Camanche Indians. Gus is survived by his daughter, Connie Paasch of West Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren, Dawn, whom Gus raised as his daughter, Lisa, and J.J.; four great grandchildren, Brady, Shawna, Shayna, and Zane; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Mildred, his son-Ron, a sister-Mitzie, and a brother-Jack.

George enjoyed doing karaoke, singing, dancing, listening to Johnny Cash songs, and participating in several P.E.P. activities. George would give nicknames for his caregivers. He will be dearly missed by all his caregivers and friends at the Skyline Center.

Helen was born on Dec. 9, 1934 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of William and Mary (Ruthe) Richter. She graduated from Mount St. Claire College in 1956 with a BA Degree in Elementary Education. She married Robert Naeve on June 2, 1957 in Clinton; he died in 2014. She was an Elementary School Teacher in Miles, IA and later worked at Nielsen Clearing House, Clinton, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and reading. Helen is survived by her daughters, Maureen (Keith) Zaehringer of Clinton and Marcia (David) Starbuck of Fulton, IL; her son, Robert “Bob” (Kary) Naeve of Manchester, IA; her granddaughter, Lydia Naeve; and a sister, Mary Ellen Richter of Manchester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and two brothers.

Janice is survived by her husband, Jim Young of Clinton; four children, Lori (Kevin) Koch of Clinton, Lon (Jennifer) Young of Clinton, Larry (Tammy) Young of Camanche, and Lowell (Jodee) Young of Ackley, IA; 7 grandchildren, Jennie Vilmont, Samantha (Tim) Harvey, Greg (Mikaela) Young, Cassie Young, Kyle Koch, Michael Young, and Kory Koch; two sisters, Margie Maura of Las Vegas, NV and Eileen (Paul) Spehr of San Antonio, TX; three step-sisters, Luwana (Roy) Hansen of Oakdale, NY, Janelle (Russ) Horton of Thermopolis, WY, and Joan Petersen of Clinton; her brother-in-law, Pete Roling of Bryant, IA; and several nieces & nephews. Clinton, IA Daniel A. “Dan” Stratton, age 60, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home. In following Dan’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 25th at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Following the burial, everyone is invited to the Eagle’s Club for a celebration of Dan’s life. Dan was born in Clinton on September 29, 1957, the son of Charles W. and Dorothy A. (Spooner) Stratton, Jr. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1976. Following his graduation Dan joined and served with the U.S. Navy. He married Sheila Clark on November 10, 1999 in Clinton. Sheila passed away on June 21, 2014. Dan had been employed at A.D.M., at Romeo Rims in DeWitt, and for the last 20 years with Ken Wiesner Lawn Care. He enjoyed his time with his grandkids and nieces and nephews, collecting antiques, Harley Motorcycles, fishing, going to auctions, gardening, cooking, canning and making salsa. He was a former member of Eagles Club. Dan is survived by three daughters; Pauline (Tim) Smith, Elizabeth Anderson (Jesse Fernandez) and Cynthia Anderson all of Clinton; eight grandchildren, Sophie, Alisa, Zoey, David, Cloie, Starlena, Dayton and Braxton; two sisters, Sarah (Daniel) Frazier of Clinton and Pamela (Rodney) Doubek of Des Moines; two brothers, Charles W. (Sharon) Stratton of New Boston, IL and Michael E. (Dorian) Stratton of Green River, WY; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Ken Wiesner and Rodney Morhardt. Clinton, Iowa Rita A. Eickert age 57 of Clinton, passed away Thursday Oct. 19, 2017 after a short battle with a very rare form of melanoma. Rita was born on March 2, 1960 in Clinton, the daughter of Wilbert Sr. and Dorothy (Hudson) Eickert. She attended Miles Elementary School and later graduating from Northeast Community Schools in 1978. She was confirmed member of Faith Lutheran Church. As an early January high school graduate, she began working at Nielsen Clearing House until October 1978. She then started her 39 year career with Custom-Pak as a machine operator. A devoted aunt, one of her greatest joys in life was attending her niece and nephews’ school activities as well as their high school graduations. She loved socializing with her relatives, work, and school friends in person and via social media. Rita is survived by her three brothers, Mark (Deb) Eickert of Clinton, Dean Eickert of Andover, and Don “Red” (Peggy) Eickert of Bryant; her sister, Brenda (Jeff) Gronwaldt of Clinton; her niece, Emily of Cedar Falls; her three nephews, John of Hoffman Estates, IL, Allan of Clinton, and Matthew of Cedar Rapids; and her beloved dog, Gabby. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Sheila, and a brother, Wilbert “Bert” Jr.

Clinton, IA Patricia R. Morrow, age 78 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 at her home. In following Patricia’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or services. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Patricia was born in Clinton on March 29, 1939, the daughter of Adolph and Wilhelmina M. (Stukas) Hendrickson. She worked as a CNA at both Jane Lamb and Mercy Hospital’s. She had also drove a school bus for the Clinton Public School System, worked at IGA, J.C. Penny and retired from Bickford Assisted Living. She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Patricia is survived by six children; Jami (Gene) Smith of Eugene, OR, Denise Meyer of Clinton, Wendy Jo Morrow of Wisconsin, Verne (Laurie) Morrow of Minneapolis, MN, Patrick (ANN) Morrow of Clinton and Wade (Amanda) Morrow of Clinton; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and a sister, Joanne Sapik of Yakima, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Jon; a granddaughter, Chrystal and a brother, Walter.

Ron is survived by his three daughters, Brianne Kokemuller of Prophetstown, IL, Amanda (Jeff) Stanek of Altoona, PA, and Catherine Kokemuller of Kalamazoo, MI ; two grandchildren, Vaida and Freddie; his sister, Janet (Ron) Scott of Pleasant Valley, MO; his brother Roger (Sharon) Kokemuller of Keokuk, IA; three nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Brent, and a sister, Linda.

Clinton, Iowa Bernard I. “Bernie” Wanzek, age 69 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals. A Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday October 6th at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be St. Boniface Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Preston American Legion. Bernie was born in Clinton on April 27, 1948, the son of Joseph and Mildred (Boehmer) Wanzek. He graduated from Preston High School in 1966. He attended Clinton Community College. Bernie served with the United States Army in Vietnam from January 1969 to January 1970. He married Verna Schaefer on January 10, 1970 in Clinton. Bernie was employed at E.I. DuPont, retiring in 2014. He also owned and operated BVL Quick Shop in Clinton for several years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Preston American Legion. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. Bernie was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed photography, putting in food plots and going to Iowa Hawkeye football games with his grandson Hunter. Bernie is survived by his wife Verna; his daughter Lisa (Dan) Collins of Eldridge; two grandchildren, Hunter and Riley; two sisters, Mary Wimpey of Bowling Green, KY and Jacinta (Steve) Clark of Wichita, KS; four brothers, Eymard (Donna) Wanzek of Clinton, Gerard Wanzek of Preston, Joseph (Joan) Wanzek of Urbandale, IA and Raymond Wanzek of Preston and several nieces and nephews.
