Eleanor V. Jackson - 92

Clinton, IA Eleanor V. Jackson, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 20 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March23, 2018 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society. Eleanor was born October 25, 1925 in Wisconsin to Ed and Leona (Cushing) Schmidt and was the youngest of six children. She spent her childhood in Sabula, Iowa. On July 24, 1943, she married Kenneth E. Jackson in Clinton. Kenneth passed away on January 31, 1995. They started their married life in New Mexico during the years of World War II and traveled across the country in their Ford Model T. They enjoyed camping and fishing along the Mississippi. From work in an artillery factory during the war, to retail, to cooking, Eleanor's favorite job was always being a mom and grandmother. After working at the Savanna Army Depot during WW II Eleanor had also worked at Curtis Company, Champion Packaging, Dairy Pak, JC Penney, Petersen Harned Von Maur, and in housekeeping at Mercy Hospital. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, enjoyed gardening and home canning, and always had a small family of pets by her side. She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Jerry) Tiesman of Clinton; grandsons Mark Tiesman of Stoughton, Wisc., and Kyle Jackson, of Clinton; granddaughters Erin (Andrew) Schroeder of Cedar Rapids, and Carrie (Joe) Lackas of Clinton. She was great-grandmother to Aiden and Natalie Tiesman, and Cordelia Lackas. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Loren (Evelyn) Jackson of Surprise, AZ and by several nieces and nephews across the country. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son Kent; and her sisters, brothers, and parents.

Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Clinton County Special Athlete’s or St. John Lutheran Church. Mildred was born in Clinton on March 17, 1925, the daughter of Detliv P. and Clara (Solhoj) Christiansen. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1943. Mildred married William “Bill” Martzahn on June 8, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. She was employed as the bookkeeper for Cummings Coal Company at later worked at Bossen Meat Market. Mildred was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church and its Sewing Circle. She enjoyed doing crafts, and playing cards and bingo. Mildred is survived by her husband Bill; a brother, John “Spider” Christiansen of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Sandi Christiansen of Camanche; a niece, Mary (Howard) Holt of Belleville, IL; two nephews, Mark Stopher of Fern Park, FL and Tim (Kim) Stopher of Homestead, FL; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, David, a sister, Alice and her God child, Lori Skiff.

Jeanne Sandaler - 89

Clinton, IA Jeanne Sandaler age 89 of Clinton passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center North. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Pape Funeral Home. Following the visitation cremation rites will be accorded with a private family burial at a later date. Jeanne was born in Clay Center, Kansas on September 15, 1928, the daughter of Russell and Pearl (Halverson) Schaulis. Following her graduation from high school Jeanne attended the University of Kansas. Jeanne married Laurence Hamilton on February 24, 1950 in Lawrence, Kansas. She later married William Sandaler, Jr. on April 18, 1971 in Clinton. William passed away in 2002. Jeanne was a former member of First United Methodist Church. She retired from International Paper. Jeanne was an avid bowler, belonging to the 600 club. Jeanne enjoyed attending Clinton Showboat Theatre and she loved her dogs. Jeanne is survived by her five children, L. Craig (Pam) Hamilton of Tucson, AZ, Jeanette (Ray) Fredericksen of Cedar Falls, IA, Jim (Paula) Hamilton of Clinton, Barb (Bert) Buczak of Cudahy, WI and Patty Foster of Albany, IL; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William and a sister Bonnie. Memorials can be made to the Clinton Humane Society.

He married Alice Stoneking on March 8, 1996 in Clinton. Mike worked as a tow-boat captain for American River Transport Corporation (ADM). Mike was a member of the Chosen Few Motorcycle Club and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycling, cooking, and watching the W.W.E. Mike is survived by his wife, Alice Bos of Clinton; three children, Tammy Bos of Fulton, IL, Michael “Bubba” Bos of Clinton, and Jacob Wilke of Preston, IA; three step-children, Michael Brock and Nicole Brock both of Galesburg, IL, and Jeffrey Brock of Clinton; 8 grandchildren; his mother, Esther Woods of Clinton; his adopted mother, Nancy Foley of Clinton; four step-sisters, Julie (Kemper) Freyer-Reeves of East Chicago, IN, Cindy Shadle of Clinton, Hope (Randy) Kimmer of Clinton, and Zelma (Tony) Uptagraw of Baraboo, WI; four step-brothers, Jeffrey Freyer of Florida, Harry (Roxann) Foley Jr. of Shellsburg, IA, Tom (Pam) Foley of Clinton, and Richard (Chris) Foley of Clinton; and his mother-in-law, Barbara Stoneking. Tom was born in Clinton on March 20, 1963, the son of Norman and Jeannette (Sanderson) Hopkins. He was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Clinton Schools. He had been employed in the construction field. Tom enjoyed fishing. Tom is survived by three children; Nathan Hopkins of Beaver Dam, WI, Zachary (Natira Dawn) Hopkins-DeMerchant of Jackson, WI and Elizabeth Hopkins of Beaver Dam, WI; five sisters, Jane Struve, Kathy (Kurt) Haines, Betty Lilly, and Theresa (Jim) Roseland all of Clinton and Ann Hopkins of East Moline; a brother, Mark (Melissa) Hopkins of Clinton; his aunt and uncle Barb and Don Flood of Clinton and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents and a brother, John.

She married Robert Walbridge on February 23, 1946, in Clinton, Iowa. He died in 2012. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she was active with the Women’s Club. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, crafts, playing cards, and spending time with loved ones. Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Baker of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Bobbie Leslie of Clinton, Iowa; five granddaughters, Stacy Baker, Marcy (David) Ruckdaschel, Bille Jo Leslie, Jennifer (Rick) Sharp, and Danielle Leslie; three great grandchildren, Madison Ruckdaschel, Payton Ruckdaschel, and Brady Leslie. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents at Mercy Living Center North for their many acts of kindness and care given to Evelyn during her time at the facility.

Oveson on June 28, 1941 in Clinton; he died in 1962. She worked at Clinton Tobacco and Candy Company in Clinton for many years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. She enjoyed making quilts for her kids and grandchildren. Gennie is survived by her three children, Bill (Jackie) Oveson of Clinton, Renee Stoltz of Minneapolis, MN, and Carol (Don) Olsen of Mt. Prospect, IL; four grandchildren, Todd, Becky, Salina, and Jenna; four great grandchildren, Arman, Zoey, Leah, and Evan; two step grandchildren and five great step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters.

Fulton, IL Lois J. Bock age 89 of Fulton, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. In following Lois’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Art Gallery or the First Presbyterian Church. Lois was born in Savanna on August 19, 1928, the daughter of Lloyd and Irene (Heer) Miller. She grew up on a farm in Durinda Center with Ray and Marion Heer. She graduated from Savanna High School. Lois married Fred Eble, Jr. on January 4, 1948 in Clinton. Fred passed away on January 6, 1975. She later married Robert Bock on July 14, 1979 in Clinton. Lois had been a fabric buyer for Singer’s and later was an executive secretary at the First National Bank in Clinton. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the ABWA. As an artist Lois loved to paint and had won several awards with the Savanna, Clinton, and Davenport Art Galleries. She and Robert enjoyed traveling and had visited every state and every continent except Antarctica. Lois was a loving, kind and beautiful person inside and out. She loved her family and looked forward to the Bock family Reunions held every two years. Lois is survived by her loving husband, Robert; seven children, Tom Eble of Clinton, Sherri (Ron) Foster of Clinton, Becky (Mark) Regenwether of Albany, Steve (Jeanne) Bock of Iowa City, Larry (Sue) Bock of Solon, IA, Lynne (Bill) Doerfler of Cumming, GA and Kevin (Patty) Bock of Spartanburg, SC; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Hank Windisch, her husband Fred and a grandson, Jacob Goebel.

Charles W. Chap - 76

Davenport, Iowa Charles Wayne Chap, age 76, passed away in Davenport, Iowa, on March 3, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday March 8, 2018 at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 7th at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery, Clinton. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Charles W. Chap Memorial Fund. Charles was born to Charles L. and Estelle (Cherye) Chap on January 27, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Western Springs, Illinois, where he received all primary and secondary education before attending Illinois State University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in education. Charles married Charlene Marie Blount in Clinton, Iowa, on May 22, 1965. He began his career as a math teacher and golf coach at Alleman Catholic High School in Rock Island, Illinois. After leaving his career in teaching, Charles was employed as a manufacturing engineer at Deere & Company. In 1985, he and his family moved to Tucson, Arizona. He finished his career at Weiser Lock, retiring in 2003. “Chuck,” as he was fondly known to most family and friends, enjoyed golfing, dancing, attending baseball games, home improvement projects and yearly road trips to visit new places, family and friends. He will be greatly missed and always remembered with a smile by those who knew him. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, then Charlene in 2002, after 37 years of marriage. He is survived by their four children: Timothy C. (Shannon) Chap of Bettendorf, IA, Scott M. Chap of Redondo Beach, CA, Peter J. Chap of Patagonia, AZ, and Amy M. Meakin of Tucson, AZ; seven beloved grandchildren: Hayden, Nolan, Joe, and Cooper Chap; Chesed and Carlos Chap; and Matthew Meakin; and his brother, Alan Rick (Janet) Chap of Chevy Chase, MD The family acknowledges and will be eternally grateful for the precious and loving care that Charles received from the staff at the Kahl Home staff and from Genesis Hospice. Ilene was born on Jan. 12, 1951 in Clinton, the daughter of William and Delores (Crampton) Larson. In 1992, she married the love of her life Robert "R.C." Johnson, who passed away in 2008. Ilene worked at Reynolds restaurant in downtown Clinton for many years. She then worked at Eagles supermarket in the deli until retiring. Ilene was very proud of her south Clinton upbringing. She was a member of the Eagles and AMVETS Auxiliary. She played with the Clinton Pocket Billiards for over 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, camping, and boating all with her beloved pet shih-tzu, Bella. Ilene is survived by her daughter, Brandy (Jason) Wynkoop of Fulton, IL; four grandchildren, Dylan (Siera), Maitlind, Whitney, and Kannon; three great grandchildren, Lyric, Paityn, and Hendrix Drury; three sisters, Jean Bimm and Barbara Larson both of Clinton, and Rosemary (Harold) Bousman of Camanche; two brothers, William (Louannda) Larson and Robert Larson both of Clinton; and her dog, Bella, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother-John.
