Vincent P. Franco - 93

Thomsom, IL Vincent P. Franco age 93 of Thomson, IL passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Genesis East Hospital, Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the services time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Vincent was born in Chicago on March 13, 1923, the son of Bruno and Carmella (Coda) Franco. He graduated from Lindbloom High School in Chicago. He attended Drake University, North Park College and Rockford College. He married Georgia H. Strand on December 21, 1946 in Chicago. Georgia passed away on September 1, 2011. Vincent was employed in Human Services. He and Georgia lived in Rockford for 12 years, Tallahassee, FL for 22 years, before moving to Thomson 9 years ago. Vincent was a World War II veteran. He entered active duty in the U.S. Army on October 12, 1942 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois and was reassigned to the U.S. Army Air Corps. He completed his training as Radio Operator Aerial Gunner (B17) and was then reassigned as Aviation Cadet (Bombardier). Vincent was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945 at Scott Field in Illinois. He was as member of the American Legion in Rockford and in Thomson. Vincent enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years and was an avid fencer as well as an instructor in the sport. Vincent is survived by a daughter, Nancy (John) Franco-Clasen of Thomson; a son, Vincent (Laura) Franco of Lake Worth, FL; four grandchildren, Nicholas Janssen, Taylor Franco, Steven Franco and Gregory Franco; a sister, Beatrice Lucio of Chicago and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bruno and Sam and five sisters, Caroline, Jenny, Anna, Catherine and Marie. A memorial has been established. South Bay, CA James W. Bell, age 93 of South Bay, CA, formerly of Mitchellville, IA, passed away on November 14, 2016. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the service hour. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery. James was born on May 26, 1923 in Des Moines, IA the son of James Alexander and Grace (Clegg) Bell. James graduated from the University of Iowa and was a member of Delta Pi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonial after 31 years of active and reserve duty. James married Virginia (Carmody) in Los Angeles, CA. James was a member of three Masonic Lodges where he held various offices and was honored with The Hiram Award. He was employed in the air transportation field retiring from American Airlines in 1983. James is survived by a nephew Gordon (Alison) Bell of Waterloo, IA and a niece Kathy (AJ) Mohr of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, and his brother Richard T. Bell.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 16th at the Christ Episcopal Church located at 2100 North Second Street in Clinton. Jan Phelan was born on January 15, 1957 in Clinton, the daughter of Frank and Iris (Darcy) Phelan. Jan was a member of the Truth Singers and an enthusiastic participant at Karaoke on Wednesday nights at Triple Play Bowling Alley in Fulton. She was blessed to have care-givers from the Community Care and DAC Inc. that loved her until the end. Jan is survived her her sisters, Bertie Tilberg of Joplin, MO, Amy Heavin of Warrensburg, MO, Geneva Montgomery of Galena, IL, Maudie (Charles) Stoltenberg of Clinton, Eva Alley of Lawrence, KS, and Bonnie Holle of Beaumont, CA and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all who were a part of Jan’s life, especially Jacci Arioso, Anna Kuhl, Tina McQuistion (Case Management), Mandy Moring, Celeste Robbins, Kellie Schneider, Amy Lynne, Sharon Prater, and Lisa Fletcher. A special thanks to Doug Heppner Jr. for his patience at Karaoke and Scott and Annette Kaczinski Family Music Ministries for their dedication to the special needs community. Clinton, Iowa Jacob D. Goebel age 31 of Clinton passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from injuries received in an automotive accident in Illinois. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 4:00 P.M. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Jacob was born in Clinton on June 10, 1985, the son of Robert A. and Rebecca J. (Eble) Goebel. He attended Fulton and Clinton Schools graduating from Clinton High School. He received his AA degree in Computer Technology from DeVry Institute. Jacob married Maggie Bice on October 15, 2011 in Clinton. He loved his job and fellow employee’s at Carroll Industrial Molds, Inc. Milledgeville, IL. He was a loving husband, father and son. Jacob had a great love for his family, music, golfing, and playing his guitar. He was a tech savoy guy who had built his own computer. Jacob is survived by the love of his life and best friend, his wife Maggie; the light of his life, his daughter, Olivia; and the twinkle is his eye, his unborn child. Also surviving are his mother, Becky (Mark) Regenwether of Albany, IL; his grandmother, Lois (Robert) Bock of Clinton; a step-brother, Joe (Abby) Regenwether of Albany; two step-sisters, Elise (Karl) Greve of Clinton and Jacie (Adam) Wherry of Fulton; his mother-in-law, Sandy Bice of Clinton; two sister’s-in-law, Kristen Bice and her fiancé Corey Robinson of Clinton and Ashley Bice of Sisters, OR and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Carolyn was a homemaker, where she loved to cook. She was one of the Jehovah Witness, Kingdom Hall in Clinton. She was a generous and giving person. Her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren sporting events. Carolyn loved to travel. Carolyn is survived by her three children, Larry (Andrea) Dunmore of Janesville, WI, James (Brenda) Dunmore of Clinton, and Steve Dunmore of Roseville, CA; 10 grandchildren, Kelly, Linsey, Geoffrey, Matt, Ashley, Nathan, Daniel, Aaron, Jennifer, and Kasey; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and several brothers and sisters.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Red Hat Club and the Sewing Club. Myrna enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and gardening. Myrna is survived by her four children, Myrna (Tim) Miracle of Clinton, Rhonda (Mark) Day of Bettendorf, William Romer, Jr. of Clinton, and Brenda (Vincent) Cornilsen of Clinton; 6 grandchildren, Bobby, William, Francis, Valerie, Danielle, and Gerri; 6 great grandchildren; and three brothers, Francis “Butch” (Karen) Shirley, William “Pete” Shirley, and Dan (Connie) Shirley all of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother.

Camanche, Iowa Merline J. Jess, 89 of Camanche, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Mercy Living Center South. In following Merline’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private service will be held. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Merline was born in Camanche on August 10, 1927, the daughter of Merlin L. and Viola M. (Hugunin) Iliff. She graduated from Clinton High School. Merline married Carl Jess on May 11, 1946 in Chicago. Carl passed away on May 14, 2008. Merlin had been employed at Grants, McLellands, the Clinton Garment Factory and as produce manager at Kopp’s in Camanche. She had been a member of the Camanche Baptist Church, Amvets Auxiliary and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. She enjoyed spending time with and going to her grandchildren’s activities, fishing trips to Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, supporting the Camanche Indian teams and going to the casino. She was a great cook, an avid Chicago Cub fan, and followed the Iowa Hawkeye’s. Merline is survived by two children; Douglas (Betty) Jess and Jane (Lenny) Beal both of Camanche; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a brother, Joseph (Sharilyn) Iliff of Clinton. Clinton, IA Cynthia J. “Cyndi” Vulich, age 64 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Mercy Living Center South. In following Cyndi’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Oakland Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Cyndi was born in Forest Park, IL on November 3, 1951, the daughter of Peter and Doris (Scott) Vulich. She graduated from Clinton High School and received her AA Degree from Clinton Community College. Cyndi had worked as a truck driver and later as a receptionist at Clinton National Bank and McEleney Motors. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking bike rides along the river and up to the lock and dam and her time living in Colorado. She was an avid dog lover and enjoyed going to trucker's jamboree in Walcott every year. Cyndi is survived by two nieces; Hannah Wamsley of Clinton and Sarah Keister of Gerlaw, IL; two great nieces, Jennifer Buhlman and Haylee Chambers both of Gerlaw and a very special friend Jeff Gilchrist of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Christine.

Clinton, Iowa David P. “Catfish” Dohrn age 57 of Clinton passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his daughter’s home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Thad, Ryan, Brandon, Seth, Gabe and Adam Dohrn, Nikki Grosso, John “Bubx” Dohrn and Duke Dohrn. Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren. David was born in Clinton on February 4, 1959, the son of Wilford and Lois (Paetow) Dohrn. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1977. David married Donita Vulich on October 7, 1978 in Clinton. He had farmed and worked construction for various local contractors. David was a member of the Eagles Club, Duck’s Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He lived for his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and quoting lines from movies. David is survived by two children; Melissa Dohrn (Don LeRoux) and David (Tara) Dohrn both of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Aleina, Keona, Davian, Avery, Ashtyn, Kaylee, Donavin, Emma and Magnus; two brothers, Robert (Julie) Dohrn and JD (Diana) Dohrn both of Clinton and nieces and nephews.
